John Thirlwell

    Mr Thirlwell is an internationally renowned speaker and writer on operational risk, risk management and governance. With over 30 years’ experience in financial services, he has represented several banking and insurance companies at board level as an executive or non-executive director. He was a director of the British Bankers’Association (BBA), helping to negotiate the current operational risk regulatory framework for banks, and founded and chaired the BBA’s Global Operational Loss Database.

    Mr Thirlwell has chaired the UK Financial Services and Insurance Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce and has contributed to advisory groups on risk and operational risk for the Bank of England, the Financial Services Authority, the Financial Services Skills Council, the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment and the Lloyd’s Market Association. He graduated from the University of Oxford and is a Fellow of the Institute of Operational Risk and the Chartered Institute of Banker
